What is Meditation?

Meditation is a simple practice, in theory, which offers profound outcomes. In reality, many of us find meditation to be a confounding practice. Our “monkey mind” is the part of us that chatters with a line of thoughts and feelings, no matter what’s going on. When our monkey mind chatters away during a seated meditation, we might think “Oh, I’m bad at meditation” when actually, the opposite is true — you just succeeded at being aware of your mind.

Instead of thinking that you’re bad at meditation, I’d like to show you that what you’re experiencing is a natural aspect of the human condition. The art of meditation offers many doorways into a beautiful room: the foundation of our consciousness. Here is just a short list of various kinds of meditation that we may use:

  • Mindfulness Meditation
  • Focus Meditation
  • Spiritual Meditation
  • Breathing Meditation
  • Movement Meditation
  • Mantra Meditation
  • Progressive Relaxation Meditation
  • Loving Kindness Meditation
  • Tonglen Meditation
  • Visualization Meditation
  • Reiki Drum Journey Meditation
  • Sound Meditation

With so many kinds of meditation, we will certainly land on a modality that you love and want to practice!

Possible Benefits

I’m excited to convey the breadth of possible benefits that come from regular Meditation practice. Make no mistake: this is one discipline that benefits from regular and ongoing use. We don’t learn to meditate and then become “fixed” such that we can completely abandon the practice of meditation. (Ask me how I know! That’s what happened for me after my first two great years of meditating — I thought I didn’t need to do it anymore. How wrong I was! It’s called a “practice” for a reason.)

Because it’s a rather difficult habit to establish and keep, it helps to truly enjoy the activity. Also, having a coach provides accountability to you on what is known to be a difficult journey moving towards greater and greatrr enlightenment. Let’s embark on a study of meditation, and see what we learn about ourselves along the way.

In a happy world, being guided to adopt an enjoyable practice of Meditation will result in your feeling:

  • Less stressed
  • Less depressed
  • More connected to yourself
  • More connected to people you care about
  • More connected to the world around you
  • Improved ability to concentrate
  • Sense of internal, emotional balance
  • Ability to regulate your emotions
  • Less anger and judgmental thoughts
